Financial Resources

All youth in foster care receive a Medical Card through DHHR. When a child first enters care, they will also receive a “clothing voucher” for the purpose of buying clothing, car seats, and other necessities. Once a family is certified as a foster parent, they will receive a boarding care check, which is used to provide for the child’s needs.

Child-Only TANF Check

Until the family is certified as a foster parent, they may apply for benefits, including a Child-Only TANF check. Families must contact their local county DHHR office:

Child Care Assistance

Youth in foster care are eligible for child care assistance.

Homefinding Policy

If the family does not meet TANF guidelines (such as not being a direct blood relation to the child), the state will issue you a monthly payment equal to that benefit. The homefinding policy may be viewed here:
