All youth in foster care receive a Medical Card through DHHR. When a child first enters care, they will also receive a “clothing voucher” for the purpose of buying clothing, carseats and other necessities. Once a family is certified as a foster parent, they will receive a boarding care check which Is used to provide for the child’s needs. Until the family is certified, they may apply for benefits, including a Child-Only TANF check. Families must contact their local county DHHR office: https://dhhr.wv.gov/Pages/default.aspx
If the family does not meet TANF guidelines (such as not being a direct blood-relation to the child) the state will issue you a payment each month equal to that benefit. Homefinding policy may be viewed here: https://dhhr.wv.gov/bcf/policy/Documents/Homefinding%20Policy.pdf
Youth in foster care are eligible for child-care assistance. https://dhhr.wv.gov/bcf/Childcare/Pages/Child-Care-Resource-and-Referral.aspx
