Informal arrangements are common between relatives.  But in these kinds of arrangements, you may have limited legal rights to make decisions about the child’s healthcare or schooling.  The parent still has legal rights and can take the child away at any time.  You may apply for child-only TANF grants and a medical card.  Medical cards may be for Medicaid or CHIP.  Income-based resources for informal relative care providers may include:
